BIRTH CULTURES EXHIBITION IN BARCELONA

Interarts and La Bonne present the exhibition “Birth Cultures: a journey through the history and traditions around childbirth and motherhood”.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on 17 November at 6.30 pm in the hall of La Bonne and will be followed by a poetry recital by Ágora Poética.

The exhibition, curated by Marta Vergonyós, Mar Serinyà and Rosa Pou, gives visibility to artists who have worked, from a poetic perspective, on birth: it will feature artworks by Ana Álvarez-Errecalde, Natalie Lennard and Laia Manresa, among others.

A wide-ranging programme of parallel activities will complete the exhibition. Between November 2021 and February 2022, two “Birth Cafés” will be organised so that mothers and fathers, from different generations and cultural backgrounds, can share stories and exchange personal experiences on pregnancy and childbirth; a conference cycle will feature the artists involved in the exhibition, alongside professionals from the health sector, thinkers, and other women of reference in the field of childbirth and motherhood. There will also be a workshop that will explore the experiences of pregnancy and childbirth by means of artistic creation; La Mostra Internacional de Films de Dones Barcelona will include film screenings and a podcast will be available on Radio Paquita.

The exhibition in Barcelona will be open until 17 February 2022. If you are interested in attending any of the activities described, sign up by filling in this form. For detailed information on the offer and development of the activities, please check the programme. It is part of the Birth Cultures project, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, together with other museums and women’s initiatives: the Frauenmuseum Hittisau (Austria), the Gender Cultural Centre of Kharkiv (Ukraine), and the Frauenmuseum Merano (Italy).
