Exhibition: Birth Culture. Giving birth and being born
From 5 July 2020 to 31 October 2021

Birth concerns us all. Like death, it affects everyone without exception. The conditions that accompany pregnancy and birth shape our lives. Birth culture is the way in which the start of life is shaped by society and the conditions it creates for this. The exhibition tells of traditional midwifery knowledge and medical achievements, of the worldwide rituals surrounding birth and the creation myths that have led to it. It provides insight into the everyday and life culture of human beings, helps us to understand physiological processes, takes into account current knowledge and questions the possibilities of today's reproductive technology.

Unbelievable, with your help it is done: The baby is born!

What role do light, smell, colour, temperature, and surface texture play in our perception? The "Room for Birth and Senses" is a walk-in clay body that allows us to experience the influence of space and environment on birth and health. It is located on the meadow near the Frauenmuseum Hittisau. Many people are involved in the creation of the "Room for Birth and Senses". The clay bricks have found 500 godmothers who have co-financed the project through a crowdfunding campaign. With their help and thanks to regional companies, the realization of a vision became possible.
